Guide profile

My name is Takashi Sumi, and I’m a fishing guide living in Gujo City, Gifu Prefecture, Japan.

I’ve been fishing for about 40 years, lure fishing for 30, and fly fishing for about 20.

In addition to working as a fly fishing guide, I also work in website creation, web marketing (SEO, social media marketing, etc.), web design, and video production and editing.

TIA-WORKS

I guide because I want to share the wonders of Japanese mountain streams and trout fishing with people overseas.

My favorite type of fishing is dry fly fishing for yamame trout, amago trout, and yamame salmon.

I also enjoy double-handed wet fly fishing.

I run a YouTube channel called “Tsurisuba Channel.”

I upload videos of my guided fishing trips and my private fishing trips, so I hope you’ll check them out!

I also post my catches on Instagram, so please follow me there as well.

I’m originally from Minamichita, Aichi Prefecture, and grew up in an environment right in front of the ocean until I graduated from high school.

With the ocean right in front of me and my father’s love of fishing, I naturally started fishing from a young age as well (laughs).

As a child, I used to fish for all kinds of fish, including seigo (sea bass), goby (goby), zenme (red sea bream), horse mackerel, black porgy, and flounder, on the nearby breakwater.

My parents also had a boat, so I would go boat fishing with my father, and at night we would go out to catch blue crabs that were swimming around.

It was such a great environment for an angler, and I caught a lot of fish back then, so it was a lot of fun, and I think that laid the foundation for my love of fishing.

By the way, I also got a boat license when I was 16, which I still have. I’m still a paper driver (^^;

When I became a university student, I got hooked on lure fishing, and even after I started working, I continued to go fishing quite frequently.

However, when I was in my 20s, I got hooked on freestyle skiing (a sport that involves ski jumping and flying down half-pipes), and for a while, my fishing trips decreased.

I got hooked on skiing, so I moved to Gujo, a snowy region.

Since the ocean was far away, I started fly fishing in mountain streams.

I guess I need fishing after all (lol).

I enjoy fly fishing in mountain streams and double-handed wet fly and streamer fishing in main streams.

Recently, I’ve been doing a lot of other types of fishing, such as horse mackerel fishing, rockfish fishing, and boat fishing.

I’ll do my best to help convey the fun and appeal of Japanese mountain stream fishing and fly fishing.

Why not try fly fishing or lure fishing in Japan’s mountain streams?
